During those playful school time, I didn't quite understand the meaning of 'Unity in diversity' , that I heard in Social Studies class. Social Studies was a subject in primary school. It took years for me to understand the real meaning and the depth of that statement. In most of the nations, more precisely,in the rest of the nations, one doesn't have to worry about the difference in the culture or language, while traveling from one place to another. But things are totally different in India- travelling from one state to another is almost like travelling from one country to another-not in terms of the distance, but of language and culture.
When I finally understood the real meaning of that famous motto, I was quite impressed, proud and happy about my country. Having such a versatility, it's hard to go united. But we have been.
But where are we now?! Things changed a lot, like never before. The diversity is still there. But the borders between regions/cultures and religions are getting more defined. The so called 'unity' is nowhere to found. Well, that's partially wrong. There's unity , but just among the people from same group- same region, same culture or same religion. In fact, chances are high that you will be beaten to death, if you are found out spending time with a girl from other religion.
People are now a days keen, not just to praise their own group, but to degrade others' as well. No matter if you are a Hindu, Muslim or Christian, everyone travels in the same boat, at least in this matter.
Folks say it's social media which makes the people anti-social. Wrong! It's the people, who don't know how to use social media, make others too, anti-social. Through likes and shares, negative thoughts are being spread, faster than light. Poisonous people make poisonous groups to extract 'kalakoodam'( the supreme poison, which came out while Asuras and Devas extracting Amrit). So where are we headed?
We are crossing 1.25 billion. But the 'Humans' in India are facing an extinction.
